People’s relations with their neighborhoods in the urban settings
In the recent years, urban population has become oblivious of their surrounding neighborhood because of many reasons. Although, there are decided social drawbacks of it, however, a right hands-on approach would help overcome this problem.
From the many problems that this situation has, the most noteworthy is the compromise on security of the community. That is to say, when the inhabitant of a community don’t keep an eye on the people moving in to their vicinity, there is a good chance that people with serious criminal record might get settled. Consequently, it will not only pose a security threat to the neighbor but also to the community overall. For instance, a gang involved in child abduction move in and would have an easy access to the children playing in community parks, or in schools. In addition to that, people living in a neighborhood develop affection towards each other with time. Hence, they could be the first and immediate available helping hand in time of need. Therefore, being unaware of the people in your surrounding could not be considered a positive trend.
However, this problem can be best solve by organizing community events along with having a community center with recreational activities for people of all ages. First, a heterogeneous community born with the people having diverse backgrounds. In this contemporary era, most of the societies and community are based on this model, because of globalization. Therefore, to have a bonding among the members of a society, people should meet each other frequently. This can be done through organizing community events such as: Eid galas, Halloween parties, Christmas parties etc. As a result, people from different backgrounds not only feel inclusive but provide them with a chance to know their neighbors better. Moreover, a community center with different facilities such as: a common gym, swimming pools, cricket academies, could be vital in helping inhabitants of a society to stay in touch with each other.
In conclusion, people being unaware of their neighbors in urban settings would be detrimental for the society’s wellbeing. However, the problems can be solved with having an inclusive and hands-on approach.
